New Beginnings

Well, I'm really writing this journal style, mainly so I can keep track of her progress. I'm going to recap our week starting with day 1.

Day 1:
We got Scuttle on September 12, 2011 around 6:30 at night. 13 bulldogs were taken from a local vet and the Jacksonville ACPS took great care in finding these bullies new homes. They were at the shelter for about a month and applications for them were taken during this time. After they approved the applicants, they informed us and made us aware that there was going to be a lottery style drawing for the dogs. We arrived at the shelter and were able to look at pictures with all the information about them. So many of them had issues from ear infections to entropion and cherry eye. We had three that we wanted to look at if they weren't adopted by the time our number got pulled.

To my amazement, we were number 2 in the lottery! I couldn't believe it! The first bully we saw was named Butterscotch who we absolutely fell in love with. But to be fair, we did look at another bully but our heart was already taken! So, we signed the paperwork and took her home!

Getting her in the car was a treat! It was very apparent right away this was a NOT something that she liked! All-in-all, we got home and introduced her to our Golden Retriever named Sailor. They seemed to like each other and then we introduced her to our home. This made her very nervous. She wasn't sure of her surroundings and it was obvious that she had not been in a family home with people, noises, faucets running, ice makers...the list could go on. Even a sneeze would startle her. We knew we had some work to do!

That evening she slept with my daughter as I had to get a good nights rest so I could get up early and take our youngest son to his home schooling program where I also tutor. Lets just say it was a rough night for her and a much appreciated sacrifice on her part. With all the snoring, I'm surprised she slept at all!
